May 2010 - Annual Rogation Service.

Today was Rogation Sunday in the parish of East Buckland. Rogation is primarily an opportunity to celebrate the start of Spring, to bless the land, to consider our stewardship of natural resources and, as a collective group of parishioners, to inspect the parish boundaries.

It has now become an annual event for Fleecehaven to be included in the Rogation Service. Unfortunately the weather was dreadful this morning, but as the parishioners arrived there was a reading from Psalm 104, followed by the singing of 'I am the light of the world' and, finally, a prayer for 'each sheep cared for at Fleecehaven and for Emma's care and dedication'.

Unlike previous years there was little lingering as the rain continued to fall heavily whilst a bitterly cold wind blew through the yard. However, one or two people did spend a few moments talking to Bluey and some of the sheep who are housed in the stables within the yard.

March 2010 - New arrivals at Fleecehaven.

We'd like to introduce our new arrivals to you. They are Woolly and Shaun (both Swaledales), Blackie (a Herdwick), Wallace (a Texel) and Rebel (a Scottish Blackface).

Their previous owner rescued them from a theme park five years ago. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, she is no longer able to look after them.

Our new sheep have settled in really well and have now been released with the rest of the flock. They are all a bit warey of each other and whenever Rebel breezes into the shed the rest of the sheep tend to run out, but hopefully they will all sort themselves out over the next few weeks.

All five of the new sheep are available for adoption. If you would like to support one of them please visit our website and follow the adoption link.

We have also just agreed to take on two further sheep who will be joining us in June. More news about them later.

April 2009 - Additions to the Fleecehaven Flock

We're delighted to have been able to provide a home to two tame lambs, Leo and Henry, originally rescued by Fiona and Gillian from Dorking. We've asked them to provide a bit of a story to publish here but in the mean-time here are some pictures.

13th May 2007 - A Very Special Visitor

We were fortunate to have our first adoption visitor today! Robert came to visit us with his family and when he saw our new lamb he fell in love with it and decided that he wanted to adopt her!

The lamb didn't have a name so it fell upon Robert to decide what she would be called. With the help of a complex system of balloting of all those present he eventually decided to call her Stella.

Contratulations to Robert and thanks for adopting Stella, our newest arrival.

12th April 2007 - A New Arrival

We have a new arrival to our flock.  She was born on 12th April 2007 in the fields adjacent to Fleecehaven and was one of quads.  The lambs were premature and the farmer was concerned that the mother would not be able to look after all four lambs.  He was also worried that this lamb and one of her brothers looked to be particularly vulnerable and their mother appeared to be rejecting them.  They were brought to Fleecehaven when they were just a few hours old and we were immediately worried about their state of health and took them to our vet where they remained for several days.  Sadly the little boy did not survive but this little girl has gradually been building up her strength and now lives happily in the house with our golden retrievers and, in particular, with Poppy who is like a mother to her!

14 May 2006

This morning we welcomed the annual Rogation service to Fleecehaven. A number of the children from West Buckland School came along and afterwards helped to give the lambs their mid-morning feed.

We have seven new arrivals at Fleecehaven!
